From one standpoint, Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas is ranked as First Growth, or \u201cfirst class producer\u201d, a select group of 21 wineries singled out by Atkin because of their quality and their expertise. Furthermore, all the wines from the 2016 vintage get marks above 94, standing out in a special way&nbsp;<strong>Hacienda Pradolagar<\/strong>, that repeats in the Top 20 and gets, for second year in a row,&nbsp;<strong>97 points<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marquesdevargas.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Captura-de-pantalla-2020-02-10-a-las-17.32.59.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marquesdevargas.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Captura-de-pantalla-2020-02-10-a-las-17.32.59-300x240.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1279\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In particular, Tim Atkin has recognized&nbsp;<strong>Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas Hacienda Pradolagar 2016&nbsp;<\/strong>categorizing it as a high-end wine coming from one of the most important wine regions for red wine. He has also appreciated its mineral background, with a fine tannin result of its ageing in French oak barrels. A subtle and elegant reference, produced only in the great vintages with the best grapes of tempranillo and mazuelo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this recognition that puts Hacienda Pradolagar among the best 20 wines of Rioja, Tim Atkin has given high rates to Marques de Vargas\u2019 red wines taking into account the quality and personality of each one of them. Thus,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marquesdevargas.com\/en\/wineries\/bodega-marques-vargas-2\/seleccion-privada\/\">Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas Selecci\u00f3n Privada<\/a>&nbsp;2016 gets 96 points<\/strong>, standing out also among the \u2018Wines of The Year\u2019;&nbsp;<strong>95 points for Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas Gran Reserva 2016<\/strong>, as well as getting a position among the 5 most prestigious wines in the category of \u2018Gran Reserva\u2019; and concludes with&nbsp;<strong>94 points for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marquesdevargas.com\/en\/wineries\/bodega-marques-vargas-2\/marques-vargas-reserva\/\">Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas Reserva 2016<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe high marks in the prestigious Tim Atkin\u2019s \u2018Special Report\u2019 recognise the solid family project of Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas, settled in the Qualified Designation of Origin Rioja for more than three decades, where our first vines were planted back in 1840. The positive ratings invite us to keep working in order to achieve the maximum quality and maintain it in time\u201d says Don Pelayo de la Mata, 11th Marquis of Vargas and 9th Count of San Crist\u00f3bal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the most complete report about Rioja made so far, Atkin highlights in his general considerations about the region, the extraordinary quality of the&nbsp;<em>terroir<\/em>&nbsp;of the estate Hacienda Pradolagar from which the winery Marqu\u00e9s de Varg\u00e1s obtains all its grapes; as well as the effort in favour of the oenotourism that some wineries from Logro\u00f1o, among which Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas stands out, are carrying out to develop the prestige of the region at a national level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">High-end wines in&nbsp;<em>Vi\u00f1edos Singulares<\/em>&nbsp;(unique vineyards)<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The work and determination of the winemaking team at Marqu\u00e9s de Vargas to produce high-end wines, have been endorsed by Atkins\u2019 reviews. In particular, in Selecci\u00f3n Privada 2016 he recognises the excellent job of Ana Barr\u00f3n that has allowed the winery to obtain a balanced vintage with Tempranillo, Grenache and Mazuelo. A fresh, refined and delicate wine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expert highlights in the Gran Reserva 2016 the classy blend of Tempranillo, 10% of Mazuelo and Grenache, aged in a combination of French and American oak. During its tasting, he appreciated the sweet touches of coconut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, in the Reserva 2016, he praises Ana Barr\u00f3n and Xavier Aus\u00e1s one more time, emphasising that the team has been able to obtain a great potential wine from Tempranillo, Grenache and Mazuelo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, to this recognition we have to add the designation of&nbsp;<strong>Vi\u00f1edo Singular<\/strong>&nbsp;(unique vineyard) by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
