Conde de San Cristóbal

2014
Conde de San Cristóbal

This wine has been elaborated with grapes exclusively from our vineyards between 16 to 31 years old.
During the harvest the time from the vineyard to the fruit reception is mas. 30-40 min and so we avoid oxidation and spontaneos fermentation.
A great red wine. Elegant power with a lot of personality. With a base of fresh fruit and mineral touches. Round in mouth, tasty and velvet, balanced, with very good acidity and integration of wood.

Tasting Note
  • Winemaker: Jorge Peique
  • Harvest date: From 15th September to 1st October 2014
  • Vineyard: The distance between the vineyard and the cellar is maximum 2 km and the vineyards extend from 780 to 880 MASL. Our estate is comprised from 7 different types of soils & micro- climates: sandy-loam, limestone-loam, clay, loam with layers of marl, sandy-clay, chalky-clay and river alluvial soils. The age of vines varies between 15 and 35 years.
  • Varietals:Tinto Fino (86%), Cabernet Sauvignon (6%), Merlot (8%)
  • Winemaking:Grapes are carefully classified on the selection table, then a low-revolution destemmer is employed, grapes are consequently transferred to the 22,500 kg fermentation tanks by means of gravity. A cold maceration is carried out at a low temperature (8ºC) for a period of 3-5 days which is followed by the alcoholic fermentation, lasting between 9 and 12 days at controlled temperatures (20-24°C). Finally, the wine undergoes a long maceration of the solids for 15- 20 days.
The handpicked and selected grapes come from the vineyard surrounding our cellar, therefore during harvest the time from the vineyard to the fruit reception is max. 30-40 min and so we avoid oxidation and spontaneous fermentation.
  • Ageing:10 to 12 months in French (Haute Futâie), Russian (Caucasus) and American oak barrels from different coopers, with subtle to medium-toast level.
  • Bottled: July 2016
  • Total production: 300,000 bottles (750 ml) and 5,000 Magnum bottles

  • Alcohol content: 14.00%
  • Total acidity:5.20 gr/l tartaric
  • PH: 3.55
  • Residual sugar: 2.90 gr/l
  • Closure: Natural top quality cork 49x24
  • Vintage:The 2014 vintage recorded a mild, but long winter, with almost no frost and minimum temperatures reaching + -3.3ºC. On the other hand, rainfall was above average. Spring was cold and rainy except for a few very warm days in April and May. Temperatures were lower than average until late May, delaying sprouting between 15 and 20 days. Summer was not excessively warm, reaching 36.8ºC as the highest temperature in the hottest days. The first fortnight of September was very warm, speeding up grape ripening, besides a very beneficial rainfall of 48 l.
  • Tasting notes:Clean and bright. This wine stands out for its intense, deep and persistent nose. It is fresh, lively and very fruit-driven. Round on the palate, it is a tasty, velvety and well-balanced wine, with good acidity and a smooth touch of oak.
  • Food matching: Roast lamb, lamb chops and all kinds of grilled meats. Cured sheep cheese and charcuterie.
  • Serving suggestions:Temperature 15-16ºC and decanting before serving is highly recommended.

  • Vintage: The 2012 harvest recorded the typical continental climate of the area itself. The lowest temperature during the Winter was -8ºC. A cool Spring and hot Summer, reaching 38,4ºC as the highest temperature, resulted in a slightly early ripening. Harvest started on September 18th with the Merlot, followed by Tinta Fina-Tempranillo grapes, that were harvested on September 20th, and it concluded by October 5th with the Cabernet Sauvignon, due to its longer cycle.
  • Tasting notes: Outstanding wine. Fine and elegant with the character of the Ribera del Duero area. Pronounced and complex on the nose, fresh fruit-driven with a mineral touch. Well-structured and balanced. A full-bodied wine of good persistence. Opulent on the palet with a rich, viscous texture and a long lingering.
  • Serving suggestions: Temperature 15-16ºC and decanting before serving is highly recommended
  • Food matching: Grilled chops, grilled roast lamb, red tuna
